Neshanic Valley Golf Course Review - New Jersey Golf Course Reviews

The Guru’s teed it up at Neshanic Valley Golf Course our first review in Somerset County.  Although early in the season the course was in very good shape.  The course is a link style course and has a lot of fescue which was not completely grown in when we played.  I have a feeling the course would play much harder in the middle of summer.  If you are looking for a fun challenging course to play in Somerset County I would recommend playing the Neshanic Valley Golf Course.  I give this course an 7.5 out of 10 ranking.

                                  Ratings (1 -10):

                                  Staff:   6

Staff at the Neshanic Valley Golf Course was ok.  The starter was not overly nice.  In fact when I asked if I had time to go to the practice range for some practice swings I got a lecture on how I better be back before my time was called, but I guess he was just trying to do his job.  There was a ranger presence on the course, occasionally you would see a ranger drive.  However, I really didn’t notice them because the pace of play wasn’t an issue.  We did however each get a complementary bottle of water on our way to the first tee.

                                  Facilities:  9

The facilities at the Neshanic Valley Golf Course were more than adequate.  The course offered an extremely nice driving range.  At the range you were able to hit off grass instead of mats.  The facilities also included a pretty nice putting green as well.  Neshanic Valley Golf Course also offered the state of the art Calloway Learning Center which looked spectacular although we didn’t have the time to check it out, a member of our foursome has been to the learning center and he said it was extremely nice.  The course is only a few years old, and sports a very nice clubhouse, which was very nice for a few quick beers after the round.   We sat outside on the balcony which overlooked the first hole tee box and ninth hole green on the nine holes called Meadow.

                                  Manicured:  8

Overall the course at the Neshanic Valley Golf Course was manicured very well, especially for being so early in the season.  Tee boxes were flat and trimmed nicely and the fairways were in great shape.  I think if the fescue had fully grown in it would have added an additional layer to the course.  Finally the green at Neshanic Valley Golf Course were very challenging, although not overly fast I never seemed to have a flat lie.

                                  Booking Process: 8

The Neshanic Valley Golf Course booking process was very easy.  Our playing partner called the Somerset County reservation system and booked our time.  Times can also be booked on-line

                                  Price: 7

The Neshanic Valley Golf Course was inline with what I expecting.  The round cost us $80 being that we were non-residents of the county.  Fees for registered county card holders can expect to pay $60 during the weekend.  It seems like this is in-line with other new signature county courses in New Jersey such as Berkshire Valley.  Quite honestly I didn’t think $80 was an unreasonable price to pay for the round.

                                  Overall Golf Experience: 7.5

Overall the Guru’s had a very pleasant experience at Neshonic Valley Golf Course.  We started out playing Ridge on the Front 9 and then moved to Meadow on the Back 9.   We thought the course was challenging yet fair.  I think once the fescue grows in over the summer, it would provide for even a greater challenge.  If you aren’t straight off the tee you may find the course extremely unforgiving.  However, the appearance of the course was very appealing to us.  The greens, fairways, tee boxes, and facilities were all more maintained above average in our opinion.  We would definitely play the course again but probably wait until peak season to play it so I can get a different experience once the fescue grows in.
